My morning cappucino at the hotel!
Today, we decided to walk to two nearby places recommended to us by the hotel concierge - Pescallo and La Punta. Since Bellagio is situated an western end of the narrow headland that divides the lake into two - lago di Como to the west and lago di Lecco to the east - it is easy to walk to both the point of the headland la Punta and to the piccolo settlement on the other side, Pescallo.
I found out that Lake Como is a long narrow lake but the deepest in Italy,
with a maximum depth of over 400m!
The rather knobby, tree-covered headland with Bellagio just out of view on the RHS
- as seen from the ferry we took the next day.

Approaching Bellagio, the church bell tower on the LHS.
1. Pescallo
We walked along Via Guiseppe Garibaldi which runs from the Chiesa Giovanna Piazza to the steps to Salita Serbelloni, following the sign to Pescallo ….
Salita Serbelloni
... and followed the old cobblestone path enclosed by an old stone wall and the pink facade of a house
.... until we reached the lake with moored sail boats.
... we then continued on to Pescallo which we could see further along the lake shore but could not reach directly....
.... the elusive cat who resisted my calls and was far too busy eating grass to come over for a pat|
but she\he was more friendly when Penny came past later for this phyoto - gorgeous!
Below on the LHS, you can see the wisteria-draped terrace of La Pergola restaurant - a lovely spot for a drink!
I took these next 2 photos of the interesting cloud formations over the mountains after a rain storm, on my second visit to Pescallo.
Here are 3 more of Penny's classy shots at Pescallo!
2. The Point
This time we followed Via Eugenio Vitali from Bellagio to the north to reach the point of the headland.
A photo of me taken by an obliging Italian man, standing on the harbour wall of the small Porte Eugenio Vitali
On our way back, I sampled a delicious ricotta canoli, just 1.5 euro, from Pasticceria Castellini in Bellagio - yum!
Later, we had simple dinner on the terrace of the hotel, consisting of a simple salad of marche and cherry tomatoes and mint cheekily picked from planters on the terrace, bread roll, zucchini frittata and a cheap Italian red - total cost 14 euro!
A lovely day!
